YDS Koçu is built privacy-first: your question photos never leave your device. This document explains what data we process and why, in plain language.

1. Photos never leave your device
Your question photo is converted to text on your device (Apple Vision on iOS, Google ML Kit on Android). Only the question text is sent to our servers; the image is never uploaded, stored, or shared with third parties.
2. Data we process
- Anonymous device ID: a random identifier generated on your device. No name, email, phone or ID is requested; there is no account sign-up.
- Question text and explanations you scan, stored against the anonymous device ID.
- Study data: saved words, spaced-repetition schedule, practice-exam results and progress.
- Subscription status: purchases are handled by RevenueCat and the app store (Apple App Store / Google Play). We never see or store your card details.
- Usage analytics: to understand how to improve the app, we collect events such as when you open the app, where the scan flow succeeded or failed, the question type (vocabulary, grammar, translation, etc.), whether you found an explanation helpful, paywall views and purchase attempts. These events are linked to the anonymous device ID — meaning events from the same device are correlated — but contain no name, email or identity information. Question text, explanation content and photos are never sent to analytics; only derived measures such as character count and processing duration are. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy → “Anonymous usage data”; when off, the app sends no analytics events at all.
3. Purposes & legal basis
We process data to generate explanations, store your study history and progress, verify your subscription, and improve the service — on the basis of performance of the service and legitimate interest.
4. International transfer
Question text is processed for explanation generation on AI infrastructure located outside Türkiye (Cloudflare Workers AI). No personal data other than the text is sent, and your photo is never transferred.
The usage analytics described above are processed by our provider PostHog on servers located in the United States. Only the anonymous device ID and event data are transferred; question text, explanation content and photos are not. If you do not want this transfer, turn off Settings → Privacy → “Anonymous usage data”.
Subscription verification runs through RevenueCat and the relevant app store (Apple App Store / Google Play), also on servers outside Türkiye; only the anonymous device ID and subscription status are processed.
5. AI label
Explanations are AI-generated and cross-verified by a second model. If the models disagree, we say so; we never present an uncertain answer as definitive. AI output may contain errors — use your own judgement for critical decisions.
6. Retention
Data is retained while you use the app. Deleting the app removes all on-device data. Server records are deleted on request or after a reasonable period of inactivity.
7. Your rights & deletion
You may access, correct or delete your data. Deleting the app removes on-device data. To delete server records, email destek@ydskocu.com with your device ID (found under Settings → Privacy in the app). See Data Deletion for steps.
8. Children
YDS Koçu targets adults preparing for exams such as YDS/YÖKDİL. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date.
